We want you to have the best time exploring our Islands, however please be aware the driving rules in the Channel Islands may be different to where you’re from so make sure you’re clued up using our handy tips below.
The maximum speed limit on the island is 40mph. However, in many places, lower speeds are necessary for safe driving
Green Lanes are principally for the enjoyment of pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders and dog walkers. Motor vehicles should try to avoid using these lanes. The speed limit is 15mph
A wide yellow line painted across the exit of a minor road means STOP and give way to traffic on the major road. A single yellow line along the side of a kerb means that vehicles can neither park or wait there at ANY time.
Some junctions may have a FILTER IN TURN sign on a lamppost. Take your turn with other vehicles. Priority should first be given to vehicles approaching from the RIGHT of your vehicle.
It is against the law to drive whilst under the influence.
It is against the law to operate your mobile phone whilst driving.
The driver and ALL passengers must fasten their seat belt(s) prior to commencing any journey. This includes adults and children seated in the rear seats of the vehicle.
Parking in St. Helier streets and in most Public Car Parks is paid for with Parking Cards which can be bough from any shop or garage displaying this symbol
Traffic lights on the island change from RED to GREEN with NO AMBER in-between.

At these juntions traffic from all directions has an EQUAL PRIORITY. You must only enter the junction IN TURN with other vehicles.
At the Filter In Turn junctions, they are often box junctions as well. You must not enter a box junction unless your exit is clear.

All public parking in Guernsey is FREE. However, at car parks marked DISC ZONE, you must use a Parking Clock to indicate your time of arrival. Some 'on-street' parking places are also DISC ZONES.
